International Women’s Day represents a vital opportunity to acknowledge the diverse identities of women. This year’s theme, #PressforProgress, is a direct outcome of 2017’s #TimesUp and #MeToo movements. We musn’t become complacent. We must keep pressing forward. We think this Bustle article sums it up best.
With roots reaching back to a New York Women’s Conference in 1910, the holiday was formally recognized by the United Nations in 1975 and has continued to grow in popularity throughout the past several decades. For us, it’s a moment to celebrate our shared experiences while honoring the ways that we are shaped by our own realities.
It was with these vibrant and intersecting identities in mind that we chose our nonprofit partners this year. In celebration of our 15th anniversary, we’ve decided to break with tradition and partner with three (yes, three!!) fantastic nonprofits.
Adelante Mujeres works to educate and empower low-income Latina women and their families, providing intentional, innovative, and holistic programs to over 5,500 families annually.
Mercy Corps NW believes that a person's background can and should not dictate their capacity to thrive. Their mission is to build more just, productive and resilient communities in the Pacific NW.
Oregon Active provides Adventure Therapy for people in our community with disabilities and other life challenging conditions. They are paying it forward through adventure and community.
In line with Levé’s mission, we are proud to introduce our peers to three groups doing important work in the Portland community by acknowledging the significance of gender identity, background, and ability. You can read more about it in our news release. We cannot wait to begin supporting these organizations and hope that you join, too!
