At Levé, we decided to be bold for our 10th anniversary, and embark on our biggest fundraising effort to date. It has meant asking you — our friends, family, supporters and peers — to join us in that campaign, which we know isn’t an easy commitment. So we decided to put our money where our heart is.
The Levé Board of Directors has pledged a total of more than $13,000 to this year’s fundraising campaign, which represents the largest contribution to date for each board member. The Executive Committee led the effort with gifts of $1,000 each, and the total figure continues to grow as other Levé members have stepped up their giving.
“The first step we took this year was to ask ourselves, ‘How much can we give?’ ” says Megan Dobson, president of Levé. “We were the first contributors to our campaign, and we surprised ourselves with how much we were able to raise internally.”
And yes, that meant tightening and reconfiguring some personal budgets.
“There was little to no hesitation about increasing our individual giving this year, but that's not to say it's a comfortable place for all of us,” Dobson says. “When you're giving all that you can, it means making some adjustments.”
It was an adjustment we felt was necessary. Levé significantly increased our 2013 development goals to support nine nonprofit organizations instead of one in honor of our 10th anniversary. We hope to raise a total of $200,000, with the initial $100,000 coming from local foundations and larger individual donors. Those funds will be used to challenge new and current donors to generate the second $100,000. We currently have $35,000 fulfilled toward the first part of the goal thanks to generous gifts from presenting sponsor Knowledge Universe, as well as the Harold and Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation, and Silver Family Foundation.
The funds donated by Levé board members will be put toward the second half of the goal, which we hope will encourage and motivate our peers leading up to and during Charity Ball.
“We hope to inspire a new generation of giving,” Dobson says.
At Levé, we know our 10th anniversary campaign is ambitious. We also know it can make a lasting impact on our community, and is one worth fulfilling.
