In Portland, April showers bring more showers and May flowers, but at Levé, even more is blooming this spring. Since selecting Bradley Angle as our 2016 partner, the ladies have been diving right into work with Bradley Angle’s many springtime events.
For those of you who missed it, Bradley Angle is an incredible Portland nonprofit which serves all people affected by domestic violence. Along with providing safety and emotional support, Bradley Angle empowers survivors to rebuild their lives, re-gain confidence, and establish their independence. On top of providing amazing services to those who need it, Bradley Angle coordinates and hosts incredible community events.
In the last weekend of April, Bradley Angle held the sale of the year in Portland, known as FindPDX. This unique event allows the public to peruse through mountains of products that were undeliverable, misaddressed and otherwise abandoned. After giving some products to the families Bradley Angle helps, the rest are sold to the public. Levé ladies worked alongside 200 other awesome volunteers helping everyone find treasure amongst the countless boxes of products: from cosmetics to electronics to sunglasses. Everyone loves finding a deal, and it felt good knowing that our shopping habit was going to such an amazing cause. With 1,400 shoppers, FindPDXraised over $58,000, all of which goes directly to supporting survivors of domestic violence.
In mid-May, Bradley Angle and its supporters pulled out the glitter and gowns for the annual GlamHer event. This year, the theme was “Unmasked” and party-goers donned sparkly masks and cocktail attire. Some Levé ladies helped work the check-in desk, while others couldn’t miss the chance to attend the swanky soiree and spent the night mingling with Bradley Angle employees, supporters, and some of Portland’s notable drag queens at The Nines Hotel. Guests spent the night eating local food and bidding on amazing auction prizes, including self indulgent spa and wardrobe packages, dining experiences, and even a trip to Hawaii! With everyone dressed to the nines, the ball was held in its typical, fabulous style for another year.
Most recently, Red Dress PDX hosted its 15th Red Dress Party and this year’s theme was Walking Red. Zombie chic was this year’s dress code, and Bradley Angle was one of the two chosen beneficiaries of the party. The Red Dress PDX organization operates in a similar way as Levé, hosting an annual event, red dresses required, which supports selected charities each year. While it’s too soon to know how big of a success this year’s Red Dress Party was, last year’s event saw over 1,200 attendees. Stay tuned to find out how many Walking Red party-goers attended to support queer youth, friends and neighbors living with HIV and Aids, and survivors of domestic violence.
With all of these awesome volunteer and social opportunities we’ve already had, we are really looking forward to see what the summer brings for our partnership (and friendship!) with Bradley Angle. Our committee and board members have been hard at work over the recent months, planning and strategizing to make our 2016 Charity Ball the most amazing one yet.
